Boy kidnapped for ransom in Uttar Pradesh

A teenaged boy was abducted for ransom at Mansurpur area near here, police said today.

Arshad, son of a scrap trader Rashid Ahmad was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs15 lakhs, demanded by the abductors through a telephone call here yesterday evening, they said.

The kidnapping instigated violent protests as people gheraoed Mansurpur police station, even as the police initiated the process of tracing the captive.

Meanwhile, some unidentifed armed men looted cash and some other ornaments worth thousands of rupees from passengers of a state roadways bus on the Khatima-Panipat highway near Fatehpur village, about 35 km from here last evening.

According to an eye witness three men boarded the bus travelling from Panipat to Bijnore at Shamli and later looted the passengers.

A search operation is on to nab the miscreants, police said.
