A book focussing on Article 370, according special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was released today by editor-in-chief of Hind Samachar Group Vijay Kumar Chopra in Jammu.

The 180-page book Article 370 - a thorn in state's integration with rest of India authored by state BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta dwells on the political developments in Jammu and Kashmir since 1947.

The author describes Article 370 as one of the main stumbling blocks in the way of the "emotional, constitutional and economic" integration of Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chopra said the leaderhip has "failed" to take a firm stand on issues concerning Jammu and Kasmir. The leadership awakens only when terrorists attack cities like Delhi or Mumbai, he charged.

Though prime minister Manmohan Singh is a very nice and honest man, he is also "soft", Chopra said.

"When I met him earlier, he said we will not hold any talks with Pakistan but later held talks with them first at Sharm-ul-Sheikh and recently at the foreign secretary level," Chopra, who is also chairman of the board of directors of Press Trust of India (PTI) Limited, said.

"Pakistan is alleging that India is involved in Balochistan, but our leaders cannot defend the allegations," he said.

Referring to groupism, he said there were "differences" even between BJP and its ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. "See Bal Thackeray - all left him one after another. I feel sad for him, having said he will rule from Himalayas to Kanyakumari."

Referring to chief minister Omar Abdullah's proposed surrender policy for return of Kashmiri youth from the other side of LoC, he said, "...outsiders do not come here to invest in the state. Is it their foolishness or inefficiency."

Chopra said it was Gupta who inspired him to provide help for the migrants and displaced people from the borders in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have sent about 270 trucks of rations and other items, including one today, for the displaced people in the state so far," he said.
