Body found in troubled Manohar-Thana, death toll rises to 3

The body of a young boy was found from the troubled area of Manohar-Thana town of Jhalawar district, raising the death toll to three in yesterday's clashes between policemen and tribals over alleged gang rape of woman, police said today.

"Two young men, Bhagwan Singh and Pappu Lal (both bheel community), died in the police firing," IGP Rajiv Dasot told PTI.

Jhalawar SP Gaurav Srivastava, who is camping in the area along with Dasot, said Mukesh Bheel, 15, who was one of the agitators died of electrocution.

The district administration distributed an ex-gratia of Rs5 lakh to the next of the kin of all the deceased, the SP said.

A flag march by jawans of STF and RAC was held in the troubled town to maintain law and order, the additional director general of police (law and order) Navdeep Singh said.

Tension still prevailed there but the situation was under control as over 400 armed cops were monitoring the situation round the clock, the ADGP said.

Furious over the alleged rape of a woman by some members belonging to another community, tribals had fought pitched battle with police, who opened fire to disperse the mob. Twenty five policemen were injured in the violence.

The state government has ordered a probe into the police firing by the divisional commissioner of Kota.
