Charging the Centre with adopting a casual approach in dealing with terrorism, the BJP today told home minister P Chidambaram that blaming the state for the Varanasi blast would not solve the problem.

"Terrorism in India has been emboldened due to the casual approach of the government," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said.

Claiming that terrorism was not an issue limited to a particular state but was a national problem, he said "blaming the state government will not help eradicate it".

Naidu was referring to the statement of Chidambaram in which he said that there could have been some laxity on part of authorities.

Chidambaram, who visited the site of the explosion, said a specific advise was given to UP on February 25 this year identifying Dashashwamedh Ghat as the possible target of terrorists and though police had made all arrangements there might have been some laxity which led to the blast yesterday.
