From demanding home minister P Chidambaram’s sacking in the 2G scam, the BJP has now sharpened its attack on prime minister Manmohan Singh too.

Seeking the PM’s resignation, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Saturday said the CBI should look at both Manmohan and Chidambaram’s role in the 2G scam. CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, too, pressed for a full-fledged inquiry into the scam probing the role of all concerned based on the information available.

“It is obvious that the PM will defend Chidambaram, because he himself is complicit. In fact, A. Raja (former telecom minister) is admirable, because he all along kept the PM informed and everything was in the PM’s knowledge. But despite all this, the PM kept silent and his silence can be taken as approval. What kind of PM do we have who for the sake of keeping allies happy stays out of their way,” he said.

“The PM has been defending Chidamabaram because he knows that if the home minister is touched then he too will not remain untouched. There is enough evidence against Chidambaram. His place is in Tihar jail, in the same cell where Raja is lodged,” Sinha added.

The BJP displayed a book highlighting the PM’s role in the scam. The book says the PM knew everything that Raja and Maran were doing and has attached a communication between the PMO and telecom ministry to prove the point. Meanwhile, taking a dig at the UPA government, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said these days people wonder who is going to be the next leader of the ruling alliance to face arrest. “People’s mindset has become such that while switching on the TV or opening newspapers they ask ‘who has gone to jail today or who is the next to go to jail’,” he said.
