BJP MLA receives extortion threat from Maoists

One BJP MLA in Bihar, Ashok Singh has received an extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh from Maoists, the police said today.

The Maoists called Singh on his cell phone recently and demanded the amount for the protection of his relatives who have been executing a road project between Karza to Warsaliganj in Muzaffarpur district.

The MLA from Paru assembly constituency of the district has lodged a complaint with the local police.

The superintendent of police, Sunil Kumar has assured protection to the BJP MLA and his family.

The Rs5.5 crore road project was part of the NHPC power plant in the district.
