Senior BJP leader Jainarayan Mishra fell inside the well of the Orissa assembly and was injured while protesting against the denial of opportunity to another member to speak on a bill.

Mishra, who fell down as the chair on which he had climbed overturned, was rushed to a hospital here for treatment.

The incident took place when the members were participating in a discussion on a bill relating to the establishment of Sri Sri University, when deputy speaker Lal Behari Himirika's abrupt instruction to independent MLA Pratap Sarangi to stop his speech evoked protest.

Though Himirika agreed to allow Sarangi to resume his speech after another speaker, the independent legislator was not given the opportunity to do so. Agitated over the denial of permisiion to Sarangi to speak, Mishra rushed to the well and banged on the speaker's table, before pulling out a reporters' chair.

As he climbed on the chair, it overturned and Mishra fell on the floor. He was injured on the shoulder but it was not immediately known if he had sustained a fracture.
