After fairing poorly in UP Assembly polls, the BJP on Sunday decided to dissolve all its district and city-level units with immediate effect.

A decision in this regard was taken  by state party president Surya Prasad Shahi after an assessment of the results with senior party leaders, party's media in-charge (West UP) Sardar SP Singh said, adding that the new units will be formed soon.

Singh said the party has taken serious note of the poll results in the state, where it lost seats which were considered stronghold of its prominent leaders.

The BJP was placed at the third spot in the recently-concluded elections with 47 seats, four down from its tally in the 2007 polls.

The party lost at all eight seats in Ghaziabad, from where former party president Rajnath Singh is an MP. State president Shahi himself lost the elections.
