A worried BJP's top brass today discussed a strategy to counter attacks on the Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka over illegal mining and corruption, as its state unit demanded the dismissal of governor HR Bhardwaj for his outbursts.

The Karnataka assembly was also paralysed for the fourth day with opposition Congresss and JDS members aggressively raising the illegal mining issue pressing for a CBI probe
after they spent a second straight night in the assembly premises.

The Congress sharpened its attack at the BJP government dubbing its rule as "goondaraj" and demanded action against
the controversial Reddy brothers--who are ministers-- without
naming them in connection with the mining controversy.

"Karnataka is not being governed. It is being non-governed by
mafia," its spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in New Delhi.

The core committee of BJP's Karnataka unit took a decision to stage a dharna along with its ministers and legislators in front of the Rastrapathi Bhavan in Delhi, to demand the sacking of Bhardwaj for his remarks against the party's government and some ministers.

The Committee  met in Bangalore under the leadership of chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

After a meeting of the BJP Central leadership in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar said, "In Karnataka, the Congress after losing the mandate, are trying to destablise the popular government of Yeddyurappa. But these machinations will not bear any fruit."

Kumar alleged that Congress was "constantly trying" to destablise the BJP government which was doing good work for
the development of Karnataka.

Central BJP leaders, including LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Kumar, M Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi, among others, met at the residence of BJP president Nitin Gadkari to discuss the crisis in Karnataka.

The strategy finalised at the meeting is to vociferously counter-attack the Congress and take on the governor as well, sources said.

Ruling out a CBI probe, Yeddyurappa said Lokayukta was already probing the issue of illegal mining since 2002-03 and has "full powers" to conduct investigation in this regard.

Highly placed sources said in Bangalore that those who attended the core committee meeting expressed their anguish over the Governor "targeting" the BJP government and flayed his actions.

The sources said a date would be fixed for the dharna after the completion of the state's current legislature session which has been disrupted in the wake of dharna resorted to by opposition Congress and JDS demanding CBI investigation into the illegal mining scam.
