Alleging spurt in incidents of abduction in Kannauj, the parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP on Thursday demanded his intervention to check the alleged deterioration in law and order situation there.

"Besides being the CM, currently you are also MP from Kannauj where during my visit yesterday people expressed their displeasure over deteriorating law and order situation," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in a letter send to Akhilesh.

Pathak said that people alleged that while there has been a spurt in abduction cases, police were not taking any action despite being informed.

While referring to a number of abduction cases, including the kidnapping of a girl student Nazia Bano and son of a journalist from Chibbramau, the BJP spokesperson alleged that people in Kannauj and adjacent areas were agitated due to these incidents.

"Currently, a dharna is being staged in Tirwa led by former MP Rambaksh Singh Verma to protest against such incidents. We  hope that being the MP of the area, besides being the CM you will take serious cognisance of these incidents," Pathak mentioned in the letter.

The BJP leader asked Yadav to take stern action against officials for not lodging FIR in the abduction cases.
