BJP core group to meet today to discuss Karnataka situation

The BJP core group will hold a meeting tomorrow to take stock of the developments in Karnataka and decide the future course of action amid reports that the Centre is mulling over imposition of President's Rule in the state.

The BJP core group, under the chairmanship of party President Nitin Gadkari, will meet at 11 am at senior leader LK Advani's residence.

The Core Group also comprises of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, her counterpart in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, former presidents Rajnath Singh, M Venkaiah Naidu, MM Joshi, Karnataka leader and MP Ananth Kumar, among others.

Senior BJP leaders were keeping a close watch on the situation in Karnataka after the B S Yeddyurappa government proved its majority in the assembly in the midst of chaos and pandemonium.

The report of Governor HR Bhardwaj recommending president's rule in the state will also figure in the meeting tomorrow. The party top brass has till now adopted a wait-and-watch attitude on the issue.

The Karnataka high court held a hearing on a plea from the disqualified MLAs and will meet again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet is scheduled to meet at 4:30 pm on the Karnataka issue.
