The Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP today appealed to governor ND Tiwari to intervene in the ongoing imbroglio over the  Telangana issue and ask the Centre to move a bill in Parliament for statehood to the region.

In a memorandum submitted to the governor, the BJP, which is also in favour of separate Telangana state, said the region has been experiencing discrimination by successive governments.

The Telangana agitation has reached its crescendo and it was not confined to any one organisation or political party. It has become a people's movement as students, intellectuals, employees and people in general joined the agitation making it more intense, the party said in its memorandum.

It said a separate state for Telangana would only end the continuous discrimination and injustice against the people of the region.
