BJP accuses govt of reneging on promise of regularising illegal colonies

BJP today accused Congress-led Delhi government of reneging on its promise made before the polls that it would regularise all illegal colonies in the city which came up till 2008.

"It was emphasised that all unauthorised colonies up to 2008 will be the beneficiaries of regularisation and just before the election, 1639 colonies were given provisional certificate but now suddenly using DDA, forest department as excuses, it was reneging on its promise," a party release quoted leader of opposition, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, as saying.

It also quoted media reports which claimed that the regularisation process was held up due to objections raised by DDA and other government agencies. 

"It was unfortunate that chief minister Sheila Dikshit before the elections had declared that all such colonies but now the stipulation and cut off year of 2002 was being used as a ploy to keep some colonies out of the ambit of regularisation," Malhotra said.

The party said if all the colonies are not regularised as promised, it would call for a city-wide agitation on the issue.

The release claimed that the government has asked the MCD to prepare the layout plans for 632 colonies only.
