The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Madhya Pradesh government and police to give a report within four weeks about a case wherein two engineering students were ragged at gunpoint by their seniors and were brutally beaten up because they refused to attend a party thrown by them.

The Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report that that some senior students of Bhopal Institute of Technology College last week forcibly took away some junior students from their residence at gun point in the intervening night of 16-17 May 2011.

The reports also alleged that the local police were told about the matter in advance but the police did not took any action and after the incident registered a case of simple beating.
