Berhampur gets a family court

The much-demanded family court at Berhampur, fourth of its kind in Orissa, has started functioning.

Chief Justice of Orissa high court V Gopala Gowda inaugurated the new court in the premises of the district and sessions judge court here yesterday.

Berhampur has the fourth family court in the state, while three other such courts at Cuttack, Rourkela and Puri are already functioning.

The state government had notified for the opening of ten family courts in the state. Another six such courts would be opened at Baleswara, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Baripda and Jajpur, officials said.

As many as 1770 cases of relating to family disputes from different courts of Ganjam district have been referred to the new court for the settlement.

Cases included 373 matrimonial while 1398 cases are related to maintenance, they said.
