A teenaged beggar boy was gagged to death after sodomy by some unidentified people in the port town of Gandhidham, a short distance from here. His half-naked body was recovered by the police on a tip-off about 12 hours after the crime, which took place in an open plot behind the main bus station on the National highway number 8-A on Tuesday night. The boy's cheek bore the marks of the accused's teeth.

"Yes, the post-mortem report said that someone had committed unnatural offence with him and his death had occurred by gagging. Though we have not been able to nab any one so far, we are quizzing the people living with him to trace the culprit," RD Baranda, deputy superintendent of police of the Anjar police subdivision, under which the port town falls, told DNA on Thursday.

The victim, aged 10, was identified as Nasir Salim Sheikh by his father, who is also a beggar, when the body was shown to the latter. His father said that Nasir had left him around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, saying that he would be back soon, but he did not
return the whole night.

Hailing from Udaipur district of Rajasthan, the duo had come to the port town five years ago from Ajmer and lived on the footpath near the bus station. Nasir had lost his mother while he was just six-months-old.

The entire port town is agitated over the incident and demanded the police to stop increasing heinous crimes in Gandhidham. One Rajesh Jeswani said that it was the third murder in the area in the past two months. He said earlier a man was murdered while passing through the area, and an unidentified body was found there only recently.

K Dadlani, an activist, said, "The place of occurrence is in the heart of the town, barely two to three km away from both the new and old police stations. Where are the police and what are they doing to stop murders, loots and thefts in the port town?"
