Members of the standing committee on health of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) visited the Prabhu International Hotel at Dasarahalli on Tuesday to discover that the cook was getting ready to make a meal of meat and fish that ought to have been hurled into the garbage bin.

The chairman of the BBMP standing committee on health, Manjunatha Reddy, said that members of the committee made a surprise visit on Tuesday, to discover that mutton kept in a vessel at the Prabhu International Hotel was stale. It was so obviously stale that there was a bad smell emanating. There was even fish that was still to be cooked, with fungal growth visible.

The cook, however, was busy making preparations for the meal with all these stale ingredients. Angry with the state of the meat and fish, the inspecting officials directed that a sample be sent to the food laboratory for testing.

Reddy said that action could be initiated against the owner of the hotel only when test results were made available by the food laboratory.

Members of the BBMP health committee later visited the Ishwarya Hotel to find conditions similar to the one they had encountered earlier.

The team later visited an apparel manufacturing unit in the nearby industrial area. Residents complained that the factory was spewing chemicals into the drains. Reddy assured that he would look into the matter and take the necessary action.
