An army man has been accused of harassing his 28-year-old wife who alleged that he had been torturing her for dowry.

In a complaint filed with the Gangammanagudi police, the woman named Jyothi said, “Ever since I came to Bangalore in May, I have been locked in my room. On August 15, I managed to free myself and sought help from other officers. But they refused to cooperate. So I approached the city police.”

He was accused of setting up his wife on fire. The complaint has been forwarded to the governor, Women’s Commission, air chief marshal, home minister and chief minister.

However, the police are not fully convinced about Jyothi’s claims. An investigating officer from the police station said, “We have questioned a number of senior officers and neighbours of the couple, many of who suspect that the woman is suffering from mental illness. Investigations are on.”
