After an extended Diwali break of six straight days, the state government offices are all set to reopen from Tuesday. However, it would be some more days before government functioning returns to normal.

The state government offices closed on Wednesday, i.e. Diwali day. They were also closed on the subsequent two days, i.e. New Year and Bhai Beej, falling on Thursday and Friday respectively.

October 29, the fifth Saturday of the month, would have been a working day but the state government declared it a holiday. This was followed by two more holidays on Sunday and Sardar Patel Jayanti on Monday, leading to six consecutive holidays for state government employees. Though the offices are reopening from tomorrow, it will take at least one more week before normalcy is restored in the corridors of power as many government officers and employees are still on holiday, and would rejoin only over the next few days.

Along with offices of the state government, offices of various government boards and corporations, including Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, will also reopen from Tuesday. The state government offices, and those of boards and corporations, will, however, remain open on November 12, the second Saturday of the month, to compensate for the October 29 holiday, said officials.
