Ayodhya verdict: Tight security in Assam

Tight security measures are in place in Assam with chief minister Tarun Gogoi appealling all sections of people to maintain peace and tranquility in view of the Ayodhya title suit verdict today.

Besides deploying security forces including police and paramilitary forces throughout the state to maintain law and order, army was also on alert in vulnerable areas, official sources said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were imposed in several districts, including Kamrup (Metro) where Guwahati is located, Kamrup (Rural), Sonitpur and Cachar districts banning gathering of five or more persons.

The state government has also prohibitted the bursting of crackers across the state for the next seven days.

Gogoi has also directed all his ministers and district general secretaries of the APCC to camp in their respective districts today to ensure no outbreak of untoward incidents following the verdict.

Meanwhile, in minority dominated Barpeta district's Kalgasia, both Hindus and Muslims were having special prayers.
