Investigations into the mysterious twin deaths of a Defence Ministry official and his wife have led police to believe he commited suicide after allegedly murdering her over possible financial constraints and it ruled out any work pressure behind the incident.

Kumar Yashkar, who was a Deputy Director in the Directorate General of Medical Services, and his wife Archana were found dead under mysterious circumstances on Friday at their flat in Hudco Place in south Delhi.

"Post mortem report reveals that the woman has died due to strangulation. She has other injuries that have happened while she was being strangulated. The husband committed suicide after killing her.

"There is no third party involved. There is no foul play involved. It looks like for now that financial constraints has led to the incident," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said today.

Preliminary medical investigations had suggested that no external or internal injuries other than burn injuries were found on Yashkar.

Police had earlier recovered a note and a diary from the room of Yashkar in which he had spoken about work pressure and mentioned the names of two army officials whom he alleged were pressurising him. However, investigators said he was not handling any sensitive information.

Five senior colleagues of Yashkar were approached by police for "enquiries" about him after he named two of his seniors in his diaries.

However, police now deny work pressure as the reason behind the murder.

Police had registered a case of murder.

Yashkar's brother had told police that the officer was dealing with RTI applications and that he had indicated that there were pulls and pressures.
