Fuelling speculation that Trinamool Congress’ ‘leave-it-or-take-it’ offer has not gone down well with Congress, Union finance minister on Sunday said party is yet to take a call on joining the government, if the alliance gets a majority in West Bengal.

“Alliance yes, but we have not taken any decision on whether to join the government, in case we win the elections,’’ he said.

“We will support TMC and may like to extend support from out side,” Pranab Mukherjee said releasing party’s manifesto on Sunday.

What seems to have provoked the senior leader is a question on ministerial berths Congress would expect in West Bengal where elections would be held in six phases starting April 18.

“Let us come to the bridge first, then we would cross it,” he said.
Party insiders told DNA that what also has annoyed the Congress leadership, besides seat-sharing, was TMC’s fielding its candidates in Assam without taking Congress into confidence.

CONG FOR COMMON MINIMUM PROGRAMME: Though Congress has not promised any radical solution to rescue debt-trapped West Bengal by taking drastic economic reform measures, like Trinamool Congress suggested in its manifesto, the party  underlined a pre-condition to workout a consensus on economic issues for a common minimum programme in case they come to power.

It was made clear when Mukherjee released a separate Congress manifesto.

“We would like the partners of this alliance (TMC and Congress) to come to consensus for a common minimum programme to rescue the state from fiscal problems,’’ Mukherjee said.

When DMA asked about special measures that he would propose for State Government’s financial recovery, he said the State Government needs to explore avenues offered by 13th Finance Commission which has hiked inflow of fund resources to the State Governments in much greater proportions as compared to earlier commission.

State party president Manas Bhuain told reporters that we would set up  missions on technology, knowledge to battle the grey areas.

Bhuain blamed the Left rulers for abandoning industry, Central funded projects like rural and urban jobs.
