Assam and Arunachal minister meet to resolve border tension

Assam and Arunchal Pradesh today decided to take immediate steps to resolve tension prevailing along the border of the two states following firing by suspected NSCN(IM) cadre.
 
Assam law minister Pranab Gogoi and Arunachal Pradesh home minister Tako Dabi met at Bimalapur along the border in Assam's Sibsagar district to resolve the tension after NSCN(IM) militants set ablaze several houses and attacked police pickets in Charaipung and Bimalapur area since the night of August 14.
 
Official sources said that there was an exchange of fire in Charaipung between the militants and security forces. Following this local residents blocked the road leading to Arunachal Pradesh.
 
It was decided that security forces of both the states would jointly patrol the border and the roads would be kept open for the public.
 
Peace committees would be set up by both states which would meet every month, the sources said.
