Police on Saturday forcefully broke up the fast of Shantilal and Praful Vaghela, father of the two children found dead under mysterious circumstances near the Asaram ashram. The Vaghelas were on a silent fast-unto-death from September 18 onwards demanding proper investigation into the death of their children. The police team on Saturday broke up the fast and picked the two from their house. They were later admitted to the civil hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).

The brothers, Shantilal and Praful, were later discharged in the evening. They then wrote an open letter to protest the police's move to break their fast.

They also vowed to continue with their fast and struggle. Their sons Dipesh, 13 and Abhishek, 12 were found dead on July 3, 2008 merely a month after they were admitted to the Asaram Ashram gurukul in Motera.

On Saturday at 3pm a team from the Naranpura police station entered Vaghela's house located in Nirnaynagar. The cops picked them up and sent them to Civil Hospital in an ambulance citing their deteriorating health.

Police inspector, Naranpura, MC Patel said that a team of doctors had examined them in the morning. He said that he was called up by the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of civil hospital informing him about the deteriorating health of the Vaghelas.

Therefore, the police rushed them to the hospital.

The brothers later wrote a letter condemning the cops move and accusing the state government of trying to scuttle their fight for justice.

They also alleged that the police forcefully picked them up from their house and send them to hospital to break their fast. In the letter they promised to continue their fast.

City police commissioner Sudhir Sinha, said that the decision to admit the Vaghelas to hospital was taken after the doctors examined them.

Sinha said Naranpura police took the step after DCP, zone-one, Sandeep Singh gave them the permission.
