An army jawan today allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
Sepoy Rajinder Kumar of 39 Rashtriya Rifles, posted at forward defence location in Jallas near Line of Control (LoC), fired from his service rifle while on duty this afternoon, defence sources said.
On hearing the gun shot, jawans and officers rushed to the site and found him dead, they said, adding the reason behind him "taking the extreme step" is not known.
The army has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident, the sources said.
This is the second such incident in the past three days. A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Ganga Ram had committed suicide by shooting himself with his personal rifle in Mendhar area of the district on Friday.
