Army colonel on leave abducted in Guwahati

An army colonel, who was visiting his family before joining his new unit in Tezpur, was abducted from his residence here, army sources said today.

Col Dayal Kakoti of the 13 Mahar Regiment was abducted from his residence at Pub Sarania area last night by "unidentified persons", the sources said.

Kakoti had been recently transferred from Jammu & Kashmir to Tezpur. He was expected to join duty soon, the sources said.

"Between 8pm and 10pm, some unidentified men abducted him from his residence. His family approached the police and lodged an FIR [first information report]," they said.

Police said they are in touch with the colonel's family.
