The armed forces will not be part of any operation against Maoists but are open to providing logistical support required by para-military forces, minister of state for defence MM Pallam Raju said today.

"We are very clear in the ministry of defence that armed forces will not directly fight with Maoists," Raju, who was here to attend the 39th All India Sainik School Principals' Conference, said.

The armed forces' function is to defend the country's borders, while the Maoist problem pertained to violence inside the country.

Admitting that there was a difference of perception on the border with China, the minister said India was well equipped and prepared to safeguard its borders.

With the economy in both countries growing and bilateral relations improving between India and China, "We have to build up on positives", he said.

On Indo-Pak relationship, Raju alleged that Islamabad was creating insurgency in India.

"Now Pakistan is facing the consequences of creating fundamentalist forces against India," he said.

India has asked Pakistan to wake up and contain those (fundamentalist) forces, he added.
