The gang members did a recce of LG Hospital before attacking Balwant Verma in the trauma ward.
The members of Anupam gang who murdered Balwant Verma, a member of the Vishnu Marwadi gang in the trauma ward of LG Hospital had first made an elaborate plan to eliminate their target.
In fact they had even done a recce of the hospital before venturing to murder Verma. Police sources said that the Anupam gang members had been allegedly called by Verma when he was in the hospital. Verma had threatened to kill the Anupam gang members following his discharge from hospital, a police source said.
"The fight between Verma and the Anupam gang members began on January 15, 2011 over the issue of diesel theft. So severe was their fallout over the issue that Verma feared being killed by the Anupam gang members. Hence he moved to his sister's place in Gomptipur," said a police source.
"But on April 13, 2011 he returned to his home in Hanuman nagar in Amraiwadi. While there Anupam gang members spotted him at the Banarasi pan centre and attacked him," said the source.
In the fight apart from Verma, Hemant Pal alias Papu, a member of Anupam gang was also injured. But as Verma had serious injuries he got admitted to the trauma ward of LG Hospital, the source said.
"On the same day, Verma called up members of the Anupam gang and threatened to kill them once he was out of hospital," said the source.
Verma had called Vinod Gurjar who was at that time with his friends Pradeep Solanki alias Kallo, Amit Thapa alias Kancho and Krishna Mudalia alias Kishan.
On receiving the threat, the gang called two more members- Hitesh Barot alias Chako and Ajit Vaghela.
Soon Chako and Vaghela did a recee of the hospital at around 9.45 on April 13 to know about the security there.
"They found the security to be minimum and decided to execute Verma before he killed them," said the source.
The six then went to LG, while two of them remained outside the hospital, the rest four went inside to execute Verma. Verma was being guarded by his brother Raja. But in the attack Verma was killed but Raja and rest of Verma's cronies managed to get hold of Thapa and injured him.
The assaulters eventually managed to escape.
But as Thapa was injured he got himself admitted to VS Hospital under a fake name from where he was later nabbed by police.
