Life they say often imitates art. The members of Anupam gang have an uncanny similarity to the characters in the movie Shootout at Lokhandwala. Some members of the gang seem to be exact replicas of the Mayas and Buwas - characters from the movie.
As was the case in the movie, these members of the gang consume liquor, find out innovative ways to smuggle IMFL, gamble and even indulge in violence. All of the gang members stay at one place and operate from their secret areas near Anupam Cinema. The gang has at least five members, all living in areas near Anupam Cinema in Khokhra.
Some of the members included Rangaa, Bablu alias Kachinda, Pradeep alias Kalloo, Amit alias Kancho Thapa and Chako Barot. All of them are notorious for their anti social activities and even collect hafta from the people involved in illegal activities.
They even work for other criminals in the city for money. All of them have been known to come up with innovative methods to smuggle liquor and has had run ins with local police on a regular basis.
They apparently are still looking for a godfather who could help them in adverse situations, sources said. One such gang member told DNA that all of them were initially involved in smuggling of liquor. "Rangaa, an active member of the gang then floated the idea of stealing diesel and later on the members of Anupam gang came together for the job," a source said. The source also said that Bablu alias Kachindoo is one of the most important members of the gang.
However as usually happens the boys soon realised their worth and refused to earn money for someone else and formed their own gang, Anupam, said the source. Before Anupam gang was formed only two gangs were involved in diesel thieving. Sources said the Anupam gang is still short of a financer who can help them with the police and finance their illegal activities.
