With red rebels stepping up their activities in Orissa, the state government today said the special anti-Maoist operation would soon begin in southern district of Malkangiri.

The Special Operation Group (SOG), state's elite anti-naxalite force, along with the BSF, CRPF and Orissa police would participate in the operation, home secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said.

"The BSF jawans have already arrived. They were stationed in Koraput for starting the operation in the southern district," Padhi told PTI.

Security personnel were being given familiarisation training before they were sent to field for undertaking operation.

Padhi, however, did not reveal the strategy relating to use of copters to locate the ultras in deep jungles in the borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Malkangiri, which was in news for frequent Naxal-related violences, shares borders with the two Maoist-infested states.

"We are in close consultation with the senior officials of the BSF and the CRPF. Strategies are being made considering geographical position of the place," said a senior official engaged in anti-Maoist operation.

Stating that BSF jawans would be 'most helpful' in the operation, Padhi said, "they (BSF) are considered as second to army jawans in terms of efficiency".

Discounting apprehension by a section that BSF jawans had no experience about anti-Maoist operation, he said, "all the jawans (including BSF, CRPF and SOG) being engaged in the anti-Maoist operation are already trained in guerrilla warfare."

A senior Orissa police officer said yesterday's killing of three security personnel by ultras had not affected the morale of the state police force and the personnel were rather more determined to crush the ultras.

"They (Maoists) ran away from the place to safe place as SOG jawans were on offensive," he said adding that the enemy had even failed to take away the guns of the slain jawans.
