The Congress on Wednesday said that the position taken by Anna Hazare and his supporters against the party in the Hisar by-election has raised several questions.

“We are not the only ones asking these questions. The people too are asking, these and it is time that they responded to them,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

He added that merely opposing a party without proposing an alternative or going into the merits and demerits of all the other candidates in the fray was not a practical thing in elections.

Earlier during a rally in Hisar on Monday, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit had also launched a veiled attack on the civil society members.

She wanted to know whether there was no corruption in Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. All these were BJP-ruled states. “Who are these civil society activists who cannot see corruption in other states,” she said.

Meanwhile, the party has also not taken kindly to the strong words of criticism from the Comptroller and Auditor general Vinod Rai regarding the functioning of the government.

“This is a free country, and every person is at liberty to express his personal views. But then constitutional authorities must exercise restraint. Just as they expect others to respect their position, they too should treat the other authorities in the same way.As it stands, no constitutional authority can comment on policy matters,” said Singhvi.
