Andhra govt rejects demand to reschedule assembly session

The Andhra Pradesh government today rejected the request made by some MLAs, close to Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, to reschedule the monsoon session of assembly slated to begin on July 7, a day ahead of the birth anniversary of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
    
Assembly is the highest forum to remember and pay respects to late Rajasekhara Reddy for whom all of us have great love and affection. So, my appeal to those MLAs is that they should attend the session where we will pay respects to Rajasekhara Reddy, information minister J Geeta Reddy told reporters here.
     
Chief minister K Rosaiah would not mind if any MLA decides to observe the birth anniversary on July eight in their constituencies, Geeta Reddy, who is floor leader of Congress in the assembly, said.
     
Asserting that Rosaiah and all ministers had great respect for late Rajasekhara Reddy, she said paying respects to him in the assembly would be a befitting tribute to the departed leader.
     
Several Congress MLAs like D Chandrasekhar Reddy and K Srikant Reddy, who are considered close to YS Jagan, have sought change in the date for the start of monsoon session of assembly.
     
Significantly, Jagan had announced his plans to resume his controversial 'Odarpu yatra' from July eight. He deferred his yatra in the wake of the Congress high command declining him permission to go ahead with the yatra.
