Anand cycles its way to a green message

Vidyanagar Nature Club organised a cycle-a-thon - a cycle rally with a message on the occasion of World Environment Day on Sunday. The rally had the message ‘burn fat and not oil’ and ‘cycling will keep both you and earth fit’.

The rally was jointly organised along with AMUL Dairy, social forestry division of Anand; Gujarat pollution control board, Anand; Charutar Arogya Mandal, Karamsad and Vidya Dairy, Anand. The other co-organisers included four girls and boys’ battalions of NCC from the state, 13 Gujarat battalion of NCC, Vallabh Vidya Nagar; R & K Sons, VV Nagar and AIESEC, VV Nagar. The rally was flagged off at 7:30am from Bhaikaka Statue and ended at AMUL Dairy, Anand.

The participants were professionals and designated, eminent people from Anand and VV Nagar along with students of varied age groups.

Vice chancellor of Sardar Patel University, Harish Padh; general manager of AMUL, Rathnam; doctors from Charutar Arogya Mandal and Anand were among the noted personalities present at the rally. At finish point, AMUL Dairy served all with a drink of milk. Later on an environmental documentary titled ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ by Al Gore was screened at the auditorium at AMUL.

The huge turn out of people was a mesmerising sight to behold as the participants, spotting white caps, paddled their way with the message that bicycles be used for travelling shorter distance.
