If you are sick of travelling in the rickety buses of the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services (AMTS), here is some good news. Tata Motors, the contractor for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s 145 feeder buses, it seems has agreed to provide a consignment of 20 feeder buses from this week. The buses, purchased under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), will be known as Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) feeder buses.

However, the AMC has decided to run majority of the 145 buses under the AMTS to provide good quality service for city transport.

The AMC has been waiting for the feeder buses since almost a year but because of specific modifications demanded by the civic body, the consignment got delayed.

JnNURM mission chief, RR Varsani said that the company will begin providing 20 buses every week and the first consignment is likely to be delivered this week.

"We will hand over the buses to the AMTS as and when it comes and they are expected to put them on road by next week," said Varsani.

Deputy municipal commissioner for the AMTS, MS Patel said that some of the buses will also be used as BRTS feeder buses. "We will run feeder buses that will ferry passengers to major intersections like Shivranjani Crossroads, Helmet Crossroads and others to give passengers direct connectivity to BRTS stands," he said.
