A CBI special court, on Monday, issued summons to Amit Shah, former Minister of State (MoS) for Home, to remain present on June 13 in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

AY Dave, the designated judge, issued summons to the high profile former minister to start the trial process in the highly controversial case in which several politicians and top IPS officers of the state have been named.

While issuing the summons to Shah, the judge observed that, the trial in the case should begin by now as the case has been pending for four months.

The judge also clarified that Shah has to appear before the court after getting prior permission from the Supreme Court which had barred him from entering Gujarat.

The Supreme Court's ban on Shah entering Gujarat came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenged the bail given to him by the Gujarat high court four months ago. Sources connected to the case explained that, by issuing summons to Shah, the judge has started formal procedure to send the case before the Additional Sessions Judge's court so that trial can begin in the same.

As part of the judicial process it is mandatory for the court to hear all the accused before starting the trial in a case.

The trial may start in a couple of months as chargesheets have already been filed against the accused including Shah.
IPS officers DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandiyan, Abhay Chudasama, Rajasthan IPS officer Dinesh MN along with several other cops have been locked behind bars for over 2 years in connection with the case.

Shah is booked for murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case and Kausarbi murder case.
