Thousands of participants flocked to Science City on Sunday to be part of the World Environment Day celebrations. Various activities and events including film screenings, tree plantation, games and puzzles to sensitise the public about environment were organised at Science City.

An exhibition on forest and biodiversity, climate change, food and shelter and drinking water was organised at the venue.  Children were seen engrossed in the game of carbon footprints. During the tree plantation activity, 100 saplings were planted in the wetland park of Science City.

Head of the department of microbiology at Gujarat University, Prof SR Dave was the chief guest at the function.

During a lecture on forests and nature, he blamed industries for environmental pollution. “It is the responsibility of science and scientists to develop green and clean technology so that industries will also practice the same and thereby help the environment,” added Dave.

He advised people to opt for public transport as vehicular pollution is higher than industrial emission.

Talking about the carbon cycle, head of department of environmental science of Gujarat University, Prof NK Jain expressed his concern for deterioration of green belt in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and requested kids to plant more trees.

The most interesting part of the celebration was the colourful cultural performance on culture of India by some 186 students in the age groups of 5-15 from IB Patel Education Trust.
