The civic body has roped in a non-profit organisation for the task. The organisation will collect all relevant data from the AMC as well as other authorities responsible for solid waste management in Ahmedabad. The plan will analyse existing situation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) performance in Ahmedabad, its issues and bottlenecks in a stepwise study of SWM chain from source to treatment/disposal.

Moreover, the organisation will conduct benchmark studies to analyse national and international best practices in SWM. The plan is important taking into consideration rapid population growth, development, population density, quantity of waste and also characteristics of solid waste
generated in the city, he said.

AMC has roped in Urban Management Center (UMC) for this project. It will pay Rs11.75 lakh to UMC. UMC will submit a draft master plan within nine weeks of work order. It will take four more weeks for inculcating comments from the AMC on the draft report.
