Taking a break from addressing civic issues, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will organise a book fair on theme of literature from May 1-7 this year. Along with exhibition and sales of books, the fair will also have literary activities. Participation from leading publishers in the country is expected.

The civic body's standing committee has allotted Rs1 crore for organising this seven-day fair at Sanakar Kendra in the city. "It will be one of the biggest book fairs in the country and henceforth will be an annual event," said Guruprasad Mohapatra, municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad. The whole event will be outsourced by the civic body.

Seven domes with 240 stalls will be installed at the fair, displaying thousands of books in different languages. Each dome will be named after literary personalities of the state and the country. One dome will be dedicated specifically to literary activities, including debate and discussion on various literary subjects, poet meet, gathering of young authors, lectures by different literary personalities and other knowledge sharing events.

"Our aim is to provide an opportunity to citizens to buy the best books in different languages at affordable prices," said Mohapatra.

The civic body will also organise 'Granth Yatra' from various schools, colleges and AMC-owned libraries to the site of the book fair.
