Four days after DNA reported on the Dalits' demand to re-construct the bulldozed Buddha Vihar, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has given an assurance that a new Buddha Vihar will be built at a piece of wasteland in the Kagdapith Police Station premises. Along with Congress leaders, the Dalits had agitated for this demand and forced the AMC to act.

The AMC went into action after DNA's report on April 10, 2012. "We were running from pillar to post but no one heard our complaint. Now the AMC has at least assured us of constructing the Buddha Vihar," a local leader, Bapu Ingle, told DNA.

Dalit leader Ashok Bhatti said that the Buddha Vihar was demolished on March 19, 2012 and since than the local leaders from the area were struggling to re-build the place of worship.

Then Congress leader Girish Parmar too joined the agitation.
He went on a fast for two days and finally the AMC swung into action.

Parmar said the Congress leaders met the Ahmedabad police commissioner and got an assurance from him in the matter. "The AMC will now write a letter to the PC and ask for the land on the Kagdapith police station for the Buddha Vihar," Parmar told DNA.

It may take around a month more for the re-construction work
to start.

Dalit leaders are happy with the development. "We welcome AMC's decision and want the Buddha Vihar to be constructed as soon as possible," a community leader said.

Out of seven Buddha Vihars in the city, the Buddha Vihar at Kagdapith was demolished by AMC on March 19, 2012.
Since then, the Dalit leaders were fighting for the re-construction of the Vihar, but nothing concrete happened.
