Amarinder Singh demands governor's rule in Punjab, dissolution of Assembly

Demanding the dissolution of Assembly and imposition of governor's rule in Punjab, PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh today said corruption has crossed the extreme limit in the state.
   
"With two chief parliamentary secretaries found guilty of corruption, two MLAs involved in murder, and several other ministers besides the Speaker facing corruption charges, this is a fit case for the dissolution of the Assembly and holding of fresh elections under the Governor's rule," Amarinder told reporters outside the district court complex here.
   
The Punjab Congress chief was here to appear in a case related to Ludhiana City Centre.
   
"The SAD-BJP alliance government particularly chief minister Parkash Singh Badal is trying to interfere in the investigations being carried by the CBI in this case," he alleged.
       
Questioning the locus standi of the government to seek information from the CBI through the chief secretary who was made to write a letter to the DIG CBI, Amarinder said, "this was quite unprecedented that the investigation agency was being asked to furnish the details of the investigation."
   
"Can anything happen without his (Badal's) consent?", the former chief asserted.
      
Asked to comment about the possible hike in petroleum prices, Amarinder pointed out that though these are mostly governed by the prices in the international market, the Punjab government can reduce the additional duty levied on petroleum products in the state.
