Amaethon ’10 best agribiz meet in Asia-Pacific region

Entering its sixth year in 2010, IIM-A's 'Amaethon' has established itself on a large-scale being recognised as the most distinguished Agribusiness summit in Asia Pacific bringing together on a single platform thinkers and policy makers from the technological industry, academic circles and government in order to interact with the enthusiastic, young minds, present from some of the best colleges in the country.

The third and last day of 'Amaethon' organised on the theme of 'Breaking Barriers: Avant-garde perspectives for a greener world' saw active participation from students present in large numbers.

The day, divided in sessions with group discussions and lectures on Industry and technology, went on to address the importance of sustainable, affordable and scalable technologies required for growth in the agribusiness scenario.

"Private investment in such endeavours initiated by the grassroot level people should be not just with the motive of making profits but should also consider the social development of these people.

The technology must be such which is usable by actual end-users" said Ela Bhatt, founder, Sewa who headed the session.

The three-day event included sessions like 'CommTrade: The real commodity exchange with virtual money', 'Omniscient: Through an array of case studies among different verticals, it aimed to bring out the decision making skills of individuals', 'Strategia: unique and challenging scenarios put across to students' and 'Management Development Module for Students'.

"Amaethon has been the most successful business summit in IIMA's history with 1,000 students present on the campus, while 5,000 students from Indian and foreign universities participated in online events. The event was witnessed a session named 'Postereque' which was a fun-filled combination of art and keen business acumen coupled together. A team from the National Institute of Agricultural Management (NIAM), Jaipur won the first prize.

Some of the eminent speakers during the event included Piruz Khambatta, MD and chairman, Rasna; Sudarshan Iyengar, VC, Gujarat Vidyapeeth; Binoy Acharya, founder, Unnati; KJ Taori, GM, agribusiness unit, SBI  and  Parag Desai, director, Waghbakri.
