A man believed to be a bootlegger was allegedly murdered by his one time business partner late on Sunday night in Naranpura area.

The police believe the motive behind murder was some old rivalry as the duo was not on talking terms for the last one month.

Manoj alias Sonu Sharma, 30, the alleged bootlegger, who was a resident of Ramapir na Tekra, Nava Vadaj, was murdered by Bharat Mewada, a resident of Krishnanagar, Nava Vadaj.

A complaint in this connection was lodged by Sharma's girl friend Babita alias Bali Jha.

Jha, 20, who is a resident of the same area as Sharma, further said in her complaint that at around 11:00pm on Sunday night, Mewada approached Sharma brandishing a sword and assaulted the latter.

Naranpura police, with whom the FIR (first investigation report) has been filed, said that Sharma sustained serious injuries and died because of excess bleeding.

“Both Sharma and Mewada were bosom friends but around a month back, the friendship turned sore. A month ago Mewada’s brother died in an accident but Mewada believed that it was the handiwork of Sharma. Since then, the duo had stopped talking to each other.

On Sunday night, Mewada got agitated and killed Sharma,” said a police official.
Mewada was living in Sharma’s house as a tenant for the last several months.

Police said that both were involved in bootlegging and Sharma had even been booked under prohibition act by Naranpura police earlier.
