Allahabad high court judgment a 'good verdict', says Kanchi seer

Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswati today said the Allahabad high court judgment on the Babri-Ramjanamabhoomi issue was 'a good verdict' that would pave the way for a negotiated settlement and bring in communal amity.

"The judgement has resulted in dividing the land into three parts. The Sriram temple can be built in the required acreage only if all parties amicably discuss the matter and adopt a give and take policy," he told reporters here.

The Seer, who had at one time played a mediatory role on the Ayodhya issue, said religious parties, including Mutt leaders and sankaracharyas, Muslim Law Board, Waqf Board, the Nyas (under Nrthya Gopaldas), the Akhara sect (to whom one part of the ground has been decreed) should hold discussions.

"Efforts to bring them together must start," he said.

The seer said the deferment of the judgement from Sept 24 to 30 had resulted in "mellowing and maturing of people's minds" against making any wrong moves lest it disturbed the peace.

"The important thing is that peace should prevail and negotiated settlements must slowly begin," he said.

The Seer said though the judgement has paved the way for a negotiated settlement, the purpose of building the temple cannot be immediately achieved and this could be done only through talks.

He said the people in Ayodhya are themselves not for any new mosques as they are keen on prayers being conducted in the existing mosques under ASI control which have been closed.
