All the four accused in the MBBS student Aman Kachroo ragging case surrendered before a fast court track today, complying with an order of the Himachal Pradesh high court.

Justice DD Sood of the high court had yesterday cancelled the bail granted to the accused by the fast track court on July 17 and directed them to surrender in the fast track court at Dharamsala by today.

"All the four accused have surrendered in the fast-track court of Purinder Vaidya", district deputy attorney R K Kaushal told reporters.

The trial court has already listed the matter for the next hearing on August 2, he added.

Taking suo motu notice of the bail granted by the fast track court to accused Ajay Verma, Naveen Verma, Abhinav Verma and Mukul Sharma, charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder on a bond of Rs50,000, the high court had issued notices to the accused and asked them to appear in the court on July 24.

The hearing in the case was adjourned on July 24 and the judgment was reserved. In its order pronounced yesterday, the high court set aside the orders of trial court and cancelled the bail.

19-year-old Aman Kachroo, an MBBS student at the Dr RP Government Medical college, Tanda (Kangra) was allegedly thrashed by four seniors on March 7, 2009 and succumbed to injuries the next day.

"The trial court would proceed with recording of evidence on the dates (August 2) already fixed and ensure that the trial is conducted on a day-to-day basis. The court would ensure that no undue and unnecessary adjournments is granted to either side", Justice Sood said in a 37-page order.

Setting aside the bail order, the high court said, "The trial court ignored that three of the accused (Naveen, Abhinav and Mukul) are also involved in other criminal case."

During the arguments in the high court, advocate general
RK Bawa said that the trial court has shown undue haste in
granting bail to the accused without considering the fact that
the recording of evidence would come to an end on August 6.

The trial court has so far recorded the statements of 26
witnesses. Statements of some doctors and police personnel
are to be recorded, he added.
