An alert driver of a Chennai-bound Intercity Express train prevented a major mishap on a parallel railway track. He alerted the driver of the Hyderabad-Cochin Express of a boulder on the track between Ingur and Vijayamangalam in Chennimalai police station limits of Erode district.

According to Chennimalai Police, the driver of the Intercity Express noticed a boulder minutes before the Hyderabad-Cochin Express was about to cross that stretch.

“It was around 7 am. On being alerted, the driver of the Hyderabad-Cochin Express slowed down and stopped it just before reaching the boulder,” police told DNA. There have been increasing incidents of culprits placing boulders on tracks on the Erode-Tirupur section, railway sources said. Recently the police caught four youths from Bihar red-handed in the act. They have been booked under the National Security Act for endangering lives of thousands of passengers,” they stated.

Security personnel including the railway and state police have beefed up night vigil to prevent any untoward incident. “A number of incidents of goods trains running over concrete slabs have also been reported,” the sources added.

“We got the information in the morning and the picture is still not clear. We still haven’t filed a case,” the sources added.
