By December 2012, Deccan Charters will increase the number of planes from two to six so as to make the service affordable. If successful, the serive will be launched in other states as well.
The air shuttle service of Deccan Charters officially began from Surat on Monday, with the first flight connecting the city with Bhavnagar, taking off at 9:30 am. The number of planes and frequency will increase in the days to come.
The nine-seater Cessna Grand Caravan 208B reached Surat airport at 9am, but there were no passengers inside.
At the airport, five persons boarded the plane to Bhavnagar, which would cover the distance in just 40 minutes. Deccan Charters is expecting minimum 70% occupancy for all its flights from Surat.
“The response for our air shuttle service is very good and people like the idea. We have got a good number of bookings for all our flights. Once everything gets streamlined, we will increase our frequency,” Captain Madhu Valsaraj, chief pilot of Deccan Charters, said.
According to Valsaraj, Deccan Charters will increase the number of planes from 2 to 6 by December 2012, so as to increase the frequency and thus make the service affordable. The company plans to run the service in low cost carrier (LCC) category.
If the service becomes successful in Gujarat, Deccan Charters also plans to launch it in other states. “Gujarat has the best infrastructure and other facilities needed for the service. There is a sizable chunk of people, who can financially afford this rapid and safe means of transportation. We found immense possibility during our survey in Gujarat and this is why we are here,” Valsaraj added.
If things go as per plan, Deccan Charters is planning to start its LCC (Low Cost Carrier) airline service in 2013, through which it looks at covering maximum number of cities in Gujarat and linking them to all important parts of the country.
