A Calicut-bound Air India flight from Dubai was diverted to Mumbai today after a passenger allegedly 'misbehaved' with a fellow woman traveller.
Two international flights of Indian air carriers reported two onboard incidents—in which a woman passenger and an air hostess were alleged victims—that led to a diversion of one of them and arrest of a male traveller.
A Calicut-bound Air India flight from Dubai was diverted to Mumbai today after a passenger allegedly 'misbehaved' with a fellow woman traveller.
In the second incident, a 56-year-old man was arrested here last night for allegedly misbehaving and outraging the modesty of an air hostess of Jet Airway on a flight from Hong Kong to Mumbai.
"The passenger was unruly and misbehaved with a female passenger sitting next to her in the aircraft. So, the pilot decided to divert the (AI) flight to Mumbai in the interest of passengers' safety," Air India spokesperson said.
When the flight IC-537 landed at Mumbai International Airport at 6.15pm, the crew handed over the accused to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) authorities, the spokeperson said, adding, the flight left for its destination—Calicut—at around 7.20pm.
No case has been registered in this connection so far, Sahar Airport police officials said.
In the Jet Airways incident, the 56-year-old man, Bruno D'Souza was arrested by the Sahar police from the airport.
"We had received a complaint stating that D'Souza had allegedly misbehaved with a female cabin crew of Jet Airways and had tried to fondle her onboard the flight," police said.
D'Souza was sent to a hospital for a medical check to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol.
He was booked under Sections 354 and 509 of Indian Penal Code for molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman.
He was released on bail on a bond of Rs5,000 from the police station early this morning as both the sections are bailable offences.
