AIADMK assails govt on delay in seeking central aid for Puducherry floods

The opposition AIADMK today charged the Congress government with being lax in seeking central aid to tackle the flood situation arising out of incessant rains in Puducherry for the past 10 days.

The opposition AIADMK today charged the Congress government with being lax in seeking central aid to tackle the flood situation arising out of incessant rains in Puducherry for the past 10 days.

Party local unit secretary A Anbalagan MLA said the announcement that each of the 3.20 lakh families (irrespective of economic status) would be given Rs1000 as relief was welcome,but the amount should be more for families in huts and could not earn their livelihood for want of work in rains.

Poor families should be granted Rs3000 while those living in concrete buildings could be sanctioned RS1,000 he said.

Anbalagan said the central aid should be sought immediately and a detailed report prepared on damage to crops, huts, roads and buildings in the heavy rains.
