The minor gave the stolen ornaments to his accomplices to sell in the market.
A teenager who wanted money to fund his lavish lifestyle stole from his grandmother with whom he lived. His act came to light when cops arrested his friends who were partners in his crime.
According to case details, Gujarat University police detained two youths Kamlesh Thakore, resident of Malav lake in Jivraj Park and Prakash Vala, resident of Sola, with stolen gold jewellery on Wednesday evening. The accused were passing by the university area in an auto. GU police, who were patrolling the area at that time, tried to stop them. However, when they did not stop, the cops chased and caught them. During examination, police found a gold chain in their possession.
On enquiry, the duo revealed that they had got the chain from a friend, Akash (name changed), a class XII student residing in Ghatlodia. The case was given to Ghatlodia police who found out that a complaint of theft worth Rs1.32 lakh from an elderly woman's house had been registered there a month ago. On further probe, they found out that Akash was the grandson of the complainant in that theft case.
Ghatlodia police arrested Akash who confessed to having stolen cash and gold ornaments from his grandmother's house. During further investigation Akash revealed that he had given the rest of the ornaments to his friends in Lunawada in Panchmahal district to sell. Akash said he did it when he required money. Ghatlodia police team has gone to Lunawada for further investigation and to recover the ornaments.
Akshay used to stay with his grandmother since he was in class VIII. Kamlesh Thakore and Prakash Vala, who were arrested on Wednesday, were his friends since school days. Akash told the police that he committed the crime as he wanted money for his extravagant lifestyle. PI K.C Rathod of Ghatlodia police station said, "Akash stole the ornaments as he wanted to have the posh lifestyle that his relatives lead."
