The Congress Bhavan, on Wednesday, was all of sudden flooded with some 2,000 odd families seeking justice.

These families are a frustrated, angry lot, who till recently used to live in the slum-dwellings on the Sabarmati riverbank. These slum dwellers are the bona fide families who still have not been allotted houses promised to them by AMC.

The opposition party had thus, on Wednesday, called these poor families to lend them a helping hand.

Speaking to DNA, secretary of All Indian Congress Committee, Deepak Babaria said, “There are many people whose names are in the list but they have not been yet allotted the houses. The reason is encroachment by other people and the misdoings of agents and middlemen who promised houses to them.”

Babaria added that it is because of the agents and middlemen that the houses have been allotted to people whose names were never listed in the allotment list.

“To set things right, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) should lay down stringent rules for the allotment of houses. However, it is not doing this. To help these people get the allotted houses, we are informing them about the concerned procedures which will be followed to enable them to get the dwellings,” said Babaria.

When bona fide families approached the civic body officials for the allotment of houses, the officials demanded related documents and identification proofs which they didn't have.

“We want to serve justice to all. These people are harassed by the AMC officials and are made to fill forms which they are unable to comprehend and this is the reason why we want to guide them.” Babaria stated.

He added that when Congress party leaders approached Municipal Commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra seeking strict action against the agents, Mohapatra said that AMC has done its duty of allotment of houses and also that it is not concerned about further problems emerging out of allotment or vacating of the houses.

When asked on their
future course of action, Babaria said a rally will be held in front of the AMC building on Friday to protest AMC's irresponsibility towards the beneficiaries.
